The Bayou Brethren were formed on Oct. 5 1994 by Al and Fran Karas at the Municipal Cafe in Hartford, CT. They proceeded to play there every Wednesday night for the next nine months. In the course of that period they were the opening act for many of the Louisiana bands that appeared at the "Muni", including BeauSoleil avec Michael Ducet, The Basin Brothers, Steve Riley and The Mamou Playboys, Balfa Toujours, and Miss Lavelle White. After their stint at the Municipal Cafe was completed they spent the next four months playing every Friday night on the "Jambalaya On The River" cruise out of the Charter Oak Landing in Hartford. For the next seven months the band resided at Gemini's Cafe, playing every Wednesday night. During their stay at Gemini's they opened for D.L.Menard and for Geno Delofose and his band French Roackin' Boogie.
